Here is the latest on Theatre Bay Area's Spotlights for January. I hope

Monday, January 5, 6:30PM-9:30PM

Shakespeare Without Tears Brush-Up

(Participants slots are filled. Call to sign up to observe or to be put
on the waiting list)

 

With Shakespeare season auditions coming up soon, it's time to brush up
on the Bard! Gwyneth Richards teaches how to master the ins and outs of
acting Shakespeare and crack the mysteries of speaking in verse. Learn
how to make your monologue come alive, as well as the essentials of when
to breathe, how to phrase and how to recognize Shakespeare's own
directions in the text. Bring a monologue of no more than two minutes,
and remember, it's called a play. Richards, an actor and self-confessed
Shakespeare fanatic, has taught her popular Shakespeare Without Tears
classes for 15 years. Location: Exit on Taylor, 277 Taylor Street, San
Francisco. Registration Starts: December 1. Cost to participate: $25
members/$40 nonmembers. Cost to observe: $10 members/$20 nonmembers.

 

Tuesday, January 6, 7-10PM

Musical Theatre Audition Brush-Up

(Call TODAY! Just a few participants are available or just come to
observe)

 

Special guest: Robert Weinapple. He has been acting, directing and
teaching in the Bay Area since 1988. Directing credits include the
upcoming Central Works adaptation of Chekhov's The Duel, The
Quick-Change Room for TheatreFirst in Berkeley, among others. Robert
also teaches acting at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Seydways
Studios and directs and teaches acting to youth at various schools
throughout the Bay Area. He has performed at many of the region's major
theatres and also works with orchestras around the country hosting
children's concerts entitled Where In The World of Music is Carmen
SanDiego? Location: Z Space Studios, 131 10th Street, San Francisco.
Registration starts: December 1. Cost to participate: $35 members/$50
nonmembers. Cost to observe: $15 members/$30 nonmembers.

General Auditions Dress Rehearsal

(Participants slots are all filled. Call to be put on the waiting list
or to observe)

 

Don't go into the TBA Generals cold! Practice your audition right on the
stage at the Roda Theatre the weekend before the auditions. Register for
a two-hour window to work your audition piece and get feedback. Please
note: No musical accompaniment will be available. 9-11AM: Special guest
Nancy Carlin. She has performed with the American Conservatory Theater,
Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Repertory Theatre and many other
Bay Area theatres. An associate artist of the California Shakespeare
Theater and an affiliate artist with Foothill Theatre Company, Carlin
also directs, teaches and coaches privately. She holds a B.A. from Brown
University and an M.F.A. from the American Conservatory Theater.
11AM-1PM: Special guest: Dana Lewenthal. She is an actor, singer and
coach who teaches professional actors to act like professionals.

Lissa Tyler Renaud is an award-winning and working actress, a recognized
director, a master teacher of acting and voice, a dedicated alignment

excellence (1975) and the internationally known Actors' Training Project
(1985) for cutting-edge professional training and master classes.
Location: Roda Theatre, 2025 Addison Street, Berkeley. Registration
starts: December 1. Cost to participate: $25 members/$40 nonmembers.

Taxes for Theatre Companies and Individuals

 

While taxes are unavoidable, there are some tips everyone should know
during this important time of the year, even for the taxes you are about
to file for 2003. Joe Weatherby is a tax specialist for artists and has
been preparing taxes for the theatre community over the past 15 years.
Location: TBD, San Francisco. Registration starts: January 5. Call
Theatre Bay Area at (415) 430-1140. Cost to participate: $35 members/
$45 non-members. Suggested experience levels: All levels welcome. 

 

Form of payment for all Spotlights is requested at time of registration,
either by credit card over the phone or check to be received by two
business days before the event. No credits or refunds given after two
business days before the event.
