Improv Scene Work Intensive
Spend three weeks brushing and and honing your improv acting skills with one
of the Bay Area's leading improv actors and instructors: Doug Kassel.
Doug's scene lab will help improvisers and actors reach the truth in their
characters. Using the theater exercises developed by Viola Spolin, your work
will reach new heights of realism and depth. This short three week class
provides the perfect chance to take your skills to the next level. Whether
your a seasoned improviser/actor or someone that is ready to move beyond
the basics-this class will provide give you the chance to grow your skills
and while having fun.
You'll focus on the elements critical to any well performed scene:
1)What is important?
2)Why is it and important?
3)Why should the audience care?
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE=E2=80=A6
That=E2=80=99s what it=E2=80=99s all about! Make your scene work more varied=
, interesting,
and successful. Work better with your scene partner, make stronger choices,
and break bad habits.
In this improvisational scene workshop, you=E2=80=99ll perform improvised sc=
enes and
get immediate feedback. The main focus will be on open scene work.
The workshop is taught by 30-year improv veteran Doug Kassel (see below) and
is open to actors with prior improv/acting experience looking to take their
art to the next level.

has more than 30 years of experience in improvisational theater. He
performed with Spolin=E2=80=99s Playmakers, The Game Theater, and Paul Sills=
=E2=80=99 Story
Theater, and he studied the work of Del Close, creator of the seminal
long-form piece =E2=80=9CThe Harold.=E2=80=9D Doug was a founding member and=
Creative
Director of San Francisco=E2=80=99s longest-lived improvisational theater co=
mpany,
Flash Family, as well as Workshop Director for two episodic long-form cult
hits, =E2=80=9CLiquid Soap=E2=80=9D and =E2=80=9CEmotional Hospital.=E2=80=
=9D Doug has also directed
countless student companies at ImprovWorks. Since 1982, he has taught with
