In the tradition of the Group Theatre and the Actors Studio, The Space, is currently expanding. The Space is not an acting class. Rather, it is a safe, studio environment where actors can work on their craft and themselves. The Space exists for the benefit of the group of actors that maintain it, all the while providing each individual with the time, the comfort, and the opportunity to challenge themselves, make choices and take risks. It is a place where you can come together as a group of actors, share your talent in a non-judgmental environment and support each other and grow, not only as actors but also as people. No appointments are necessary; please try not to arrive later than 9pm. Callbacks will be scheduled Thursday evening, September 25. The classic Greek tragedy will be presented in an exciting modern interpretation. The version/translation by Jean-Paul Sartre is the likely choice, though exploration of other translations is still ongoing and will be determined before auditions begin September 22. The theme of war and its ultimate folly keenly affected Euripides, when his beloved and democratic Athens invaded and subjugated Melos. The theme is as timeless today. "The Trojan Women" is directed by Jay Manley, with settings designed by Joe Ragey and costumes designed by Amy Zsadanyi-Yale. Performances will be presented November 7-23. Rehearsals will be held weekday evenings and some weekend days, beginning September 27. Roles available and approximate age ranges Women¹s roles: Hecuba Queen of Troy, 40's-60's, emotionally and physically demanding role; Cassandra, daughter of Hecuba a prophetess who has gone mad in her suffering, 20's-30's; Andromache wife of the fallen Hector and mother of Astyanax, 20's-30's; Helen wife of Menelaus, abducted from the Greeks to Troy by Hecuba¹s son, Paris, attractive and seductive in a special way, 20's-30's; Pallas Athene the patron Goddess of Attica, daughter of Zeus, 20's-40's; Chorus Leader and Chorus the defeated women of Troy, whose husbands, fathers and sons have all been slaughtered they act, of course, as the chorus in this play, so have substantial individual vocal and group choral work throughout the play. Men¹s Roles: Talthybios the Trojan herald or messenger, who brings the devastating news to the Trojan women, wonderful character role, 20's-60's; Menelaus the avenging Greek general, husband of Helen, 30's-60's; Poseidon, God of the sea and patron God of Troy, 30's-60's; Soldiers several conquering Greek soldiers. Child role: Astyanax the son of Andromache and Hector and heir to the Trojan throne, who is murdered to prevent a Trojan resurgence one day. This is a non-speaking role, but a very conspicuous presence and requiring of substantial discipline, 7-10. Auditioners are encouraged, though not required, to have a prepared monologue, classic or contemporary. Cold readings will also be scheduled. Auditioners should bring four quarters to purchase a parking permit at auditions; those cast in the production will be provided a free permit for the duration. Closest parking to the auditions is Parking lot 1, the first lot on your right as you enter the campus. Foothill College is located at El Monte Road and I-280 in Los Altos Hills. This is a non-Equity, not-for-pay production. For a recorded announcement about these auditions, phone 650-949-7414. For further questions about the auditions, please phone 650-949-7417. ----__JNP_000_61e3.7b39.5e30 Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Tryouts for "The Trojan Women" Open Tryouts Euripides' "= The Trojan=20 Women" at Foothill College

Below are descriptions of the three new classes. If you are interested in signing up for any of these classes, please contact the instructor directly. All classes at the studio are limited in size to 12 students maximum. Acting For Singers Class Instructors: Bobby Weinapple & Dave Miotke (primary accompanist) Class Time/Days: Tuesdays, 6:00pm - 10:00pm October 21- November 25 Cost: 6-week session for $375.00 To enroll: contact Bobby Weinapple at wapple@pacbell.net (a $50 deposit is required to hold a spot) For the past six years Bobby has been teaching acting to opera singers at the SF Conservatory of Music and developing a way of helping singers feel less self-conscious on stage, feel more connected to their emotions, and allow the music to inform rather than hinder the singers' ability to be effortlessly in the moment. Each week every student will get to work on a piece of music they have brought in. As the class progresses, we may also begin to work on duets, trios, and scenes from opera and musical theatre. An accompanist will be provided every week. This class is for singers of all types, but you should have some experience and ease with working on and learning music, and we will ask you to provide your own pieces to work on, though we may make suggestions for other pieces as we progress. Sight-reading music is not a requirement. The class will not be focusing primarily on vocal production, breath technique, diction, etc. but rather on the acting side of performing as a singer. If you are interested in signing up or would like more information, please contact Bobby directly at (510) 234- 7575 or e-mail wapple@pacbell.net. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- Trigger Approach Class Instructor: Janis Bergmann Class Time/Days: Sundays, 6:00pm - 10:00pm October 12- November 16 Cost: 6-week session for $300.00 To enroll: contact Janis Bergmann at bergmann8@juno.com (a $50 deposit is required to hold a spot) The trigger approach is a technique originally designed by Richard Seyd as a way of breaking down text, thought by thought, to enable the actor to live more authentically and spontaneously in the moment during performance. All actors are told that "being in the moment" is important, but no one teaches the actor how to be in the moment effortlessly. The trigger approach is designed to give the actor a working methodology for achieving that performance state. The class will include an initial session with Richard Seyd, and will continue with an in depth exploration of the approach through rehearsal and performance of an assigned scene. There will also be improv work and exercises to more fully develop spontaneity, relaxation and imagination. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- On-Camera Class Instructor: James Cutts Class Time/Days: Sundays, 6:00pm - 10:00pm October 21- December 9 Cost: 8 Weeks $450 ($350 for returning students) To enroll: contact James Cutts at jcutts@pacbell.net (a $50 deposit is required to hold a spot) This eight-week class teaches actors of all levels the techniques needed to work on film. Whether your interest is in feature film or television commercials, this class covers the rules and tricks of successful work in front of the camera. Each week students will perform on camera and receive individual feedback. Instruction will cover scene study and script analysis with a focus on booking professional work. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- -- * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * `* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * "This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before." -Leonard Bernstein ----__JNP_000_076b.1bfe.7148 Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Seydways Studio Fall Classes
