Dear Friends: In addition to our regular ongoing weekly classes with
Richard Seyd and Bobby Weinapple, this fall we will be offering three new
classes as part of Seydways Studios. Below are descriptions of the three
new classes. If you are interested in signing up for any of these
classes, please contact the instructor directly. All classes at the
studio are limited in size to 12 students maximum.
Acting For Singers Class
Instructors: Bobby Weinapple & Dave Miotke (primary accompanist)
Class Time/Days: Tuesdays, 6:00pm - 10:00pm
October 21- November 25
Cost: 6-week session for $375.00
To enroll: contact Bobby Weinapple at wapple@pacbell.net (a $50 deposit
is required to hold a spot)
For the past six years Bobby has been teaching acting to opera singers at
the SF Conservatory of Music and developing a way of helping singers feel
less self-conscious on stage, feel more connected to their emotions, and
allow the music to inform rather than hinder the singers' ability to be
effortlessly in the moment.
Each week every student will get to work on a piece of music they have
brought in. As the class progresses, we may also begin to work on duets,
trios, and scenes from opera and musical theatre. An accompanist will be
provided every week.
This class is for singers of all types, but you should have some
experience and ease with working on and learning music, and we will ask
you to provide your own pieces to work on, though we may make suggestions
for other pieces as we progress. Sight-reading music is not a
requirement. The class will not be focusing primarily on vocal
production, breath technique, diction, etc. but rather on the acting side
of performing as a singer. If you are interested in signing up or would
like more information, please contact Bobby directly at (510) 234- 7575
or e-mail wapple@pacbell.net.

Trigger Approach Class
Instructor: Janis Bergmann
Class Time/Days: Sundays, 6:00pm - 10:00pm
October 12- November 16
Cost: 6-week session for $300.00
To enroll: contact Janis Bergmann at bergmann8@juno.com (a $50 deposit is
required to hold a spot)
The trigger approach is a technique originally designed by Richard Seyd
as a way of breaking down text, thought by thought, to enable the actor
to live more authentically and spontaneously in the moment during
performance. All actors are told that "being in the moment" is
important, but no one teaches the actor how to be in the moment
effortlessly. The trigger approach is designed to give the actor a
working methodology for achieving that performance state.
The class will include an initial session with Richard Seyd, and will
continue with an in depth exploration of the approach through rehearsal
and performance of an assigned scene. There will also be improv work and
exercises to more fully develop spontaneity, relaxation and imagination.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------
On-Camera Class
Instructor: James Cutts
Class Time/Days: Sundays, 6:00pm - 10:00pm
October 21- December 9
Cost: 8 Weeks $450 ($350 for returning students)
To enroll: contact James Cutts at jcutts@pacbell.net (a $50 deposit is
required to hold a spot)
This eight-week class teaches actors of all levels the techniques needed
to work on film. Whether your interest is in feature film or television
commercials, this class covers the rules and tricks of successful work in
front of the camera. Each week students will perform on camera and
receive
individual feedback. Instruction will cover scene study and script
analysis with a focus on booking professional work.
