Casting information for roles of The Chef and The Woodsman in "The =
Bracebridge Dinner"
"The Bracebridge Dinner" is a Christmas extravaganza held every year at =
Yosemite's Ahwahnee Hotel. The show is a dinner theatre, the story =
based on Washington Irving's "A Christmas at Bracebridge Hall".
The Chef (actor/singer) is a somewhat over-the-top character (as all =
chefs are) who is having a fling with The Housekeeper of Bracebridge =
Hall. He and The Housekeeper are in constant competition to see whose =
favorite entr=E9e will win The Squire's approval. Slight French accent. =
Male 20-45. Tenor, Baritone or Bass. =20
The Woodsman is a long-standing friend of Squire Bracebridge, who is the =
host of The Dinner. This character has a spiritual connection with =
Yosemite Valley. Male 30-55. The Woodsman is an acting part; however, =
since there are other musical events at The Ahwahnee during the =
Christmas week, finding an actor who also sings is a plus.
The commitment for the role of The Chef role requires singing =
participation in the Christmas Choral concerts during the holiday =
period. These concerts are comprised of various types of Christmas =
music, with some choreography included. Casting is for a "singer/actor =
who moves well". The rehearsals for The Chef are September 3rd, 4th, =
6th and November 13th. The concert rehearsals are Saturdays October =
9th, 16th, 23rd, November 6th, 13th and 20th. There are two full =
company rehearsals, November 8th and December 6th. The part pays $1900 =
with full room and board for actor and family in Yosemite from December =
12th to 26th.
If a non-singing actor is cast as The Woodsman, the role pays $500 with =
room and board for actor and family from December 12th to 26th . There =
is a very short rehearsal schedule for this part. If this actor sings, =
then the above-mentioned Christmas concerts and rehearsals are included =
and the pay is $1,900.
We are also auditioning male singers (tenor, baritone and bass) for =
choral positions. Pay is $1,400 with room and board for singer and =
family.
The cast is made up of opera and musical theatre singers, many of whom =
have done this show for 20+ years. It is a beautiful event, now in its =
76th year. The Valley is magical in winter.
Auditions are Tuesday, August 31 from 1 - 4 pm. Bring a two minute =
monologue (classical or contemporary) for The Woodsman and a comedy =
piece for The Chef and be prepared to read from the play. If =
auditioning as a singer, be prepared to sing and bring music for =
accompanist. A singing Woodsman is a plus. Singers must have some =
choral experience. The show is directed by Jeff Raz.
