The trigger approach is a technique originally designed by Richard Seyd
as a way of breaking down text, thought by thought, to enable the actor
to live more authentically and spontaneously in the moment during
performance. All actors are told that "being in the moment" is
important, but no one teaches the actor how to be in the moment
effortlessly. The trigger approach is designed to give the actor a
working methodology for achieving that performance state.

The class will include an initial session with Richard Seyd, and will
continue with an in depth exploration of the approach through rehearsal
and performance of an assigned scene. There will also be improv work and
exercises to more fully develop spontaneity, relaxation, imagination and
character.

"This class is a brilliant fusion of pragmatism coupled with artistic
expression. With a no-nonsense mentality and an insight to match; Richard
Seyd and Janis Bergmann just make sense. Janis Bergmann is hands down
one of the best teachers the Bay Area has to offer." -Brian Stevens

"The trigger class literally changed my whole approach to acting. After
years of training, I finally found a way to be in the moment and to trust
that the words and responses will just be there without anticipating
them. I highly recommend this class. It is a way to learn a script and
discover a character in the early part of the process rather than the
end!" -Lisa-Marie Newton

"The trigger approach is the most useful tool I have learned to date.
Not only did the course teach me a superior method for understanding,
analyzing, and eventually knowing any text, but the method gave me an
unparalleled access and immediacy to my acting. The class remains one of
the best I've taken!" -Emily Rahe

"I use the trigger approach now, and it has made my acting more organic.
I also get off book faster than anyone else because I have a true
understanding of the text. With the great teaching of Janis Bergmann
this class really helped me improve my acting tenfold. I recommend the
trigger class to any actor who wants to take their training to the next
level." -Jack Starr
