THE WORKSHOP
This workshop is designed with a flexible structure that will allow students=
=20
to either start from scratch and write a play in three weeks OR deeply revis=
e=20
a play that=B9s already written (or started).
Students will be introduced to a series of writing exercises, drawn from=20
Liz=B9s current work practices and experience as well as borrowed from other=
=20
playwrights she=B9s worked with (including Mac Wellman, Suzan-Lori Parks, Do=
nald=20
Margulies, Eric Overmyer and Maria Irene Fornes). Writing explorations will=20=
include=20
sessions on narrative, character, structure, language, theatricality, influe=
n
ce, and alternative approaches to freeing your unique voice, all in the most=
=20
practical, hands-on way. You will learn the secret art of transposing recycl=
ing=20
and re-combining old ideas in surprising and unpredictable ways =AD to creat=
e=20
luminous characters and dramatically complex stories.
In other words, you will write. A lot.
Sessions will also be studded with quotes from people and works that have=20
inspired and influenced her, and will include a comprehensive list of Liz Ad=
am=B9s=20
reading recommendations.
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Back by popular demand to teach her third workshop for PF, LIZ DUFFY ADAMS,=20=

Bay Area Playwrights Festival Alumnus (Dog Act, 2002) is well known for her=20
dexterity and skill in originating bold, specific language particular to liv=

theater. She returns to San Francisco from her home in New York City as a=20
playwright-in-residence, to continue the process of a co-commissioned new wo=
rk with=20
Crowded Fire. Liz Duffy Adams has endeared herself to the Bay Area theater=20
