I made a boo-boo-- the auditions are NOT being held at the Pear, but at
"Pear North", Jordan Middle School, 750 N. California Avenue, Palo
Alto. Easy to find, close to 101.
Sorry!

Some choice, intriguing roles are up for audition in the Pear Avenue
Theatre's season opener, Veracruz, a premiere of a new play by San
Francisco playwright John Levin. The play covers U.S.'s invasion of
Mexico to protect oil interests, which attracted many first-rate
reporters to the scene, including Jack London. Douglas MacArthur led
troops in the operation. And there was an attempt to cover up a
shocking mistreatment of Mexican prisoners... Startlingly current, and
a first-rate play.
Here's what we're looking for:
Douglas MacArthur, when he was 35, classic military man; a Captain at
this point, looking to make the move that will make him visible, begin
to establish his military career. A fascinating portrayal of a complex
individual
Charmian London, Jack London's wife, age 43 (Jack's a few years
younger). Smart, savvy, socialist by persuasion, Jack's helpmate in
several different ways, keeps him grounded; has several crucial scenes
w/Jack, is the moral center of the play
Fred Boalt, 25, Jewish intellectual socialist reporter, admires Jack,
first to break the scandal and bring it to Jack's attention.
Sor Juana, maybe 38-48, madam of the Veracruz brothel, friends with
Jack.
Auditions are Monday, Aug. 2, 6:30 - 10:00, callbacks on Aug. 3, AT
JORDAN MIDDLE SCHOOL IN PALO ALTO, 750 N. California Avenue. Please
prepare a serious monologue under 2 minutes; you'll also cold-read. If
you're auditioning at the South Bay Generals, you don't need to
audition separately, but you could let us know if you want to be
considered for a role.
For an audition appointment, either e-mail me or call the theatre at
650-254-1148.
Equity actors could be considered for either MacArthur or Charmian,
under a BAPP. All actors paid a stipend. In just two years, the Pear
Avenue Theatre has established itself as a first-rate theatre that does
high-quality work, with a focus on underperformed classics and cutting
edge new and contemporary pieces. With our central peninsula location
and proximity, we've attracted top-notch talent from San Francisco to
San Jose.
See you in the theatre,
