Award-winning author Dave Eggers will lead a community conversation with
Mayor Gavin Newsom on Thursday, May 6.  Presented by Arts Forum San
Francisco, the FREE event will be held at The Green Room of the War
Memorial Performing Arts Center, 401 Van Ness Ave.  The event will be
offered on a first-come, first-served basis; doors to the Green Room
open at 5:30 p.m.  The conversation followed by a question and answer
session will take place from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.;  a networking reception
follows immediately.  The conversation with Mayor Gavin Newsom is free;
small donations will be requested for attendance at the reception. 

In September 2003, Arts Forum San Francisco convened a first-ever
community forum with all the leading mayoral candidates, focusing on San
Francisco public policy and the arts.  At that time, candidate Gavin
Newsom issued a policy paper on the arts to the standing-room-only
crowd.   Once Newsom was elected Mayor, his transition team followed up
with an 80-page report on San Francisco arts issues.  Now, while the new
Administration's policies are still being finalized, the arts community
has an opportunity to better understand the Mayor's proposals, hear his
priorities, and offer observations, question, and concerns.  

Arts Forum San Francisco is an inclusive forum for sharing ideas and
resources, grappling with difficult issues, and imagining and
implementing solutions that will result in sustainable and
forward-thinking arts programming, partnerships, and policies.
