Director: Mark Phillips
Character Descriptions:
DR. PRENTICE:
A middle-aged English psychiatrist, forties to fifties. Well-meaning,
but prone to sexual dalliance and quite unable to keep things
concealed when he does make the attempt at seduction. Married to a
strong, domineering woman, he is always struggling to undo the frenzied
mess his life has become. His quick-thinking does not always pay off,
and often results in a bigger mess than before. (Think John Cleese in
Fawlty Towers.)
His accent is upper-middle class, standard British. Role requires
verbal and physical agility!
GERALDINE (AGE 18 to 30-ish):
A likeable, enthusiastic, smart but rather unworldly young woman just
out of secretarial school. Eager to please. Her innocence and
inexperience keep her from catching on to Dr. Prentices sexual
advances. She is NOT a dumb secretary she is merely trusting and
hasnt yet learned to question authority. Sexy without being overtly
sexual: she just IS sexy; she doesnt try to be.
Her accent reflects her lower-middle-class upbringing: a passable
standard British dialect with a few lower-class habits that she hasnt
yet broken. Must also be willing to appear on stage wearing only a bra and panties.
NICK (AGE 18 to 30-ish):
A young hotel bellman who boasts some success at seducing older female
patrons of the hotel. Aware of his good looks and confident in his
sexual conquests but not smug or arrogant in any way. He is a sweet,
earnest kid who just sort of falls into compromising situations but
who knows how to take advantage of them as well. He is a charming young
con-artist. Must be willing to appear onstage in briefs.
His is a working-class British accent from London, perhaps, but it
could also be from an area like Manchester (think Daphne from
"Frasier").
