Danse Libre <http://danselibre.org/>, a vintage ballroom dance troupe
dedicated to the lively exhibition of 19th and early 20th century social
dances, is looking for 3 zany, self-motivated actors for our bi-annual
spring show (this year titled "Steps to Remember"). Performances are Friday
and Saturday, May 27 & 28 (Memorial Day weekend). Tech rehearsals are the
preceding Tuesday and Wednesday.
Why self-motivated? Because there may not be many actor-only rehearsals
prior to tech. You'll be expected to come in with your lines memorized.
(All told, the "actor's part" of the dance show is probably no more than a
one-act equivalent, interspersed between the dancing.)
Roles available are:
Dr. Fraud [pronounced "FROWD"] (doctor), who is a skeptical, cynical,
middle-aged, greed-monger.
Ms. Pennington (patient), who is a rich, clumsy, rambling outcast.
Frank (assistant)
Ms. Pennington will be required to do a basic Charleston swizzle step (but
we can coach you on that).
If you're interested, e-mail or -- preferably -- call me (510-429-1528), and
I'll e-mail you a copy of the script. We'll likely have an audition
involving reading a scene or two from the script.
